Qualifications
You must be licensed with a minimum of two years experience and in good standing with your state board.
If you are a PTA actively enrolled in a DPT bridge program, we ask that you apply to volunteer after taking the NPTE toward licensure as a physical therapist.
Item Writer Expectations
FSBPT expects that item writers will:
Attend and actively participate in the training workshop.
An item writing workshop typically lasts two-and-a-half days, usually a full day on a Friday and Saturday and a half day on Sunday. Participants receive instruction in how to draft high-quality test questions (items) and are expected to produce a small number of the items during the workshop.
Dedicate time and effort
necessary to apply the concepts presented during the training and to produce high-quality, psychometrically sound items. Item writing can be time consuming. Experienced item writers have reported taking 30-45 minutes to write one high-quality test question; beginning item writers may take considerably more time per question. Please look at your schedule and be sure you will have time to devote to item writing. [
Applicants who are faculty members: if your time is limited but you want to know more about the NPTE program, you may prefer to attend an NPTE Workshop for Educators, which does not include an item writing commitment (https://www.fsbpt.org/Secondary-Pages/Educators/Educators-Workshops)].
Write the required number of items
during the workshop and over the workshop term (total of 20 items within 2 months for regional workshop participants; 40 items within 4 months for basic workshop participants). Development of the NPTE is highly dependent on each item writer's contribution of the full number of items in the assignment.
Uphold the confidentiality of the examination.
Prior to the workshop, you will be asked to sign a volunteer agreement affirming that you understand and will uphold the secure nature of the NPTE.
Have access to a computer and the internet.
FSBPT expects that all volunteers will:
